John Akehurst Racehorse trainer Tattenham Corner Stables Epsom
John has been amongst racehorses all of his life. He was head lad before becoming assistant trainer to his father where he learnt first-hand his father’s talent for preparing horses for big handicaps. John had some success as an amateur jockey, both on the flat and National Hunt, before Mother Nature brought any chance of a successful riding career to a premature end.
He obtained his own licence in 1990 and trained in Epsom before moving to Lambourn for a brief period and then returned to Epsom to take over when his father retired. As a trainer, John has enjoyed considerable success with many Group and Listed winners, both in the UK and abroad, including successes at Royal Ascot and most major tracks in the UK.
Old Yard, Clear Height Stables is now John’s base where he has continued to build a successful record and is one of the leading trainers in Epsom.
